I Want to Get Married… Am I Divorced?

After a long separation, many spouses are unable to locate their spouse to find out wether or not they are still married. This causes a dilemma for those that want to remarry. What should you do? The first step would be to exhaust all efforts to try to locate your spouse. The internet and social networks have opened up a whole new door for easily finding people. Chances are you will be successful. The second option would be to contact the courthouse in the county where your spouse last lived (and other county courthouses where you know or think your spouse may have resided). Since people typically divorce in the county they live, chances are the courthouse will have the divorce on record if it exists. If you still have no success, the third option would be file for a divorce by publication to make sure your marriage is terminated before getting married again.
